The refurbishing cost of Kensington Palace, where Prince William and Kate are residing, costs 4.5million pounds.
According to accounts, 4.5million pounds of taxpayers money has been spent on refurbishing the 20-room Palace apartment, which is 16 times the cost of the average UK home, the Mirror reported.
Sir Alan Reid, Keeper of the Privy Purse said that the money has been spent on structural work and bringing rooms up to "basic living standard" for them and baby Prince George.
Accounts cited 3.4million pounds for the Kensington Palace work, came from the 36.1million pounds Sovereign Grant given to the Monarch by the Treasury in 2013/14, and 1.1million pounds from the financial year 2012/13.
Sources revealed that the couple has also received a large sum from Prince Charles' private funds to help with furnishings, which included significant costs for the removal of asbestos, new roof, overhaul of electrics and plumbing and internal building.
