CPI inflation rises to 5.54% in November 2019

Core CPI inflation up marginally to 3.50% in November 2019

The all-India general CPI inflation jumped to 5.54% in November 2019 (new base 2012=100), compared with 4.62% in October 2019. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 5.27% and urban area 5.76% in November 2019 as against 4.29% and 5.11% in October 2019.

The core CPI inflation rose marginally to 3.50% in November 2019 compared with 3.44% in October 2019.

The cumulative CPI inflation has declined to 3.73% in April-November FY2020 compared with 3.94% in April-November FY2019.

Among the CPI components, inflation of food and beverages jumped to 8.66% in November 2019 from 6.93% in October 2019. Within the food items, the inflation increased for vegetables to 35.99%, cereals and products 3.71%, pulses and products 13.94% and milk and products 3.46%. Further, the inflation also moved up for oils and fats 2.64%, spices 4.33% and sugar and confectionery 2.06%. However, the inflation eased for fruits 3.29%, prepared meals, snacks, sweets etc 1.94%, non-alcoholic beverages 1.35%, meat and fish 9.38% and egg 6.20% in November 2019.

 

The inflation for housing eased marginally to 4.49%, while that for miscellaneous items moved up to 3.67% in November 2019. Within the miscellaneous items, the inflation for transport and communication increased to 0.88% and personal care and effects 6.29%, while it eased for education 5.21%, recreation and amusement 4.10%, household goods and services to 2.18% and health 5.49% in November 2019.

The inflation for clothing and footwear eased to 1.30%, while the CPI inflation of fuel and light moved up to (-) 1.93% in November 2019.
