Freight loading rises 0.9% in November 2019 after three months of declineThe Indian Railway (IR) has recorded 3.2% decline in its overall revenues to Rs 15060.33 crore in November 2019 over November 2018. The IR revenues had moved up 7.0% to Rs 15560.04 crore in November 2018.
The passenger earnings increased 5.9% to Rs 4461.65 crore in November 2019, against 7.1% growth recorded in November 2018. However, the earnings from freight traffic, accounting for 64.4% of the total revenue, dipped 9.2% to Rs 9701.79 crore in November 2019. The other coaching revenue fell 4.5% to Rs 392.70 crore, while the revenue from sundry activities jumped 103.2% to Rs 504.19 crore in November 2019.
In April-November FY2020, the revenue earnings of IR declined 0.5% to Rs 117091.44 crore, while snapping 6.9% rise recorded in April-November FY2019. Further, the IR revenues have been below the budget target of Rs 133482.68 crore for the above mentioned period.
The goods revenue declined 2.9% to Rs 75947.52 crore, while the passenger revenue increased 4.2% to Rs 35249.13 crore. The other coaching revenue increased 2.6% to Rs 3197.93 crore and the sundry earnings moved up 9.5% to Rs 2696.86 crore in April-November FY2020.
Freight loading of the IR rose 0.9% to 101.05 million tonnes (mt) in November 2019 over November 2018. Meanwhile, the freight revenue plunged 4.8% to Rs 10207.94 crore in November 2019.
The net tonne kilometers (ntkm) slipped 2.8% to 55739 million in November 2019. The revenue per tonne fell 5.6% to Rs 1010, while the revenue per ntkm declined 2.0% to 183 paise.
IR's freight loading stood at 781.76 mt in April-November FY2020, showing a decline of 1.3% over 791.69 mt in April-November FY2019. The freight loading at 781.76 mt for April-November FY2020 was marginally lower than the estimate of 822.77 mt for the period.
The passenger traffic of IR rose 0.2% to 699.74 million in November 2019. Passenger traffic fell 1.2% to 5579.74 million in April-November FY2020. The passenger traffic is below than the budget estimate of 5750.74 million for April-November FY2020.
