Telecom stocks edge higher
Telecom stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Telecom index increasing 7.11 points or 0.64% at 1110.51 at 09:47 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 4.98%), Bharti Infratel Ltd (up 3.47%),GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 2.56%),Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (up 2.36%),HFCL Ltd (up 1.17%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Tejas Networks Ltd (up 1.16%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd (up 0.27%), OnMobile Global Ltd (up 0.16%), and Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 0.12%).
On the other hand, Reliance Communications Ltd (down 3.49%), Vodafone Idea Ltd (down 1.52%), and ITI Ltd (down 0.91%) turned lower.
At 09:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 94.53 or 0.23% at 41768.45.
The Nifty 50 index was up 29.1 points or 0.24% at 12288.8.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 48.78 points or 0.36% at 13444.21.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 14.6 points or 0.31% at 4718.21.
On BSE,861 shares were trading in green, 465 were trading in red and 65 were unchanged.
