Bengal student elections to be held after assembly polls

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Thursday announced that elections to the student bodies in state-run universities and colleges would be postponed by about four months and would be held after the assembly elections.

He reasoned that the exams of the state's secondary and higher secondary board are being conducted in February while the assembly polls are held around April-May, so the student union polls in the state-run colleges and universities would be held after the assembly elections instead of in the winter months.

"The circulars will be issued to the colleges. The exams are usually held in February while the polls are in April-May," he said.
