The Union Home Ministry on Monday approved the deployment of CISF at Kerala's upcoming Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL), an official said.

The move comes three months after the Ministry got a proposal from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for the deployment of over 600 personnel at the airport.

The CISF had sent the proposal in February for the deployment of its personnel at the KIAL, said CISF's Assistant Inspector General Hemendra Singh said.

"The Home Ministry today sanctioned more than 600 posts for induction of CISF at KIAL which is spread in more than 2,330 acres."

The CISF would be deployed at the airport consequent upon remittance of security deposit and completion of pre-induction formalities by the KIAL management, he said.

When completed, Kannur airport, which is set to begin commercial operations shortly, will be the fourth airport in India to have a runway length of 4,000 metre after Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, the official added.
