A police officer was killed and a militant was arrested during a gunfight on the outskirts of Srinagar on Friday.
Police said the militants attacked a police checkpost in Zakura area, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
Police Sub-Inspector Imran Ahmad was injured in the militant firing and succumbed to his injuries.
"A militant was arrested during this gunfight while two other policemen also sustained injuries," a police officer said.
"Another militant has reportedly escaped from the encounter site. The area has been surrounded to locate the militant."
Police said the checkpost had been set up after specific inputs about the movement of militants in the area.
The place where the incident took place is 11 km from Srinagar's city centre Lal Chowk.
