Three persons were hospitalised after several thousand people tested their bravery by dashing alongside six fighting bulls through the slippery, rain-soaked streets of the northern city of Pamplona in the sixth running of the bulls at Spain's San Fermin festival.

Spanish Red Cross spokesman Jose Aldaba said no one was gored today but one runner was taken to hospital with a suspected bone fracture.

Municipal workers had applied an anti-slip coating onto the cobblestones of the narrow streets in a bid to lessen injuries after rain had fallen overnight.

Today's run attracted many thrill-seekers keen on running the 930-yard (850-metre) course from a holding pen to Pamplona's bull ring.

The nine-day street-partying festival was immortalised in Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel "The Sun Also Rises.
