The Customs department today seized around 37 kg of banned drug pseudoephedrine worth about Rs 93 lakh and arrested a man at Umling in Ri-Bhoi district.
The personnel of the anti-smuggling unit of customs intercepted a man identified as Lachhanchhuaha from Mizoram who was coming from Guwahati in a vehicle at the inter-state border, the sources said.
"Lalchhanchhuaha, a resident of Falkland, Zemabawk in Aizawl could not produce any document in support of the purchase, possession, transportation of the drug, which is in violation of section 9 (A) of the NDPS Act, 1985," L Ralte, Assistant Commissioner (preventive) told PTI.
He was thereby arrested, Ralte said, adding, the seized drug, valued at about Rs 93,45,750, was confiscated.
Lalchhanchhuaha will now face legal proceedings under the relevant preventive laws of the land, the official said.
