Over 1,300 hutments were raised during a demolition drive by Railways today near the rail line here leading to angry residents pelting stones at a Rajdhani Express and breaking several glass windows of the train.

The slum-dwellers had been given notice by Railway officials to vacate the area as plans were on to put a fourth railway track at the spot. However, the residents did not do so and all the shanties were removed using JCB machines.

"Several angry residents blocked the tracks and pelted stones at a Rajdhani Express, breaking the windows of the train. The crowd was dispersed after heavy police force reached the spot. No one was injured," a police official said.

The Railways had conducted a similar demolition drive in April removing slums at Azad Nagar colony near the rail line.

According to a railway official, the land belongs to the Railways and plans were in place to put a fourth track.
