Andhra Pradesh government today requested Karnataka to release three tmc-ft of water from Narayanpur reservoir for Jurala project, to ease acute water scarcity in Mahbubnagar district.
AP Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew has written a letter to her Karnataka counterpart S V Ranganath, requesting to spare three tmc-ft of water out of the 18 tmc-ft currently available in Narayanpur reservoir.
Jurala project in Mahbubnagar district of AP currently holds only one tmc-ft of water, against the requirement of three tmc-ft during the summer.
Besides irrigating over 18,000 acres, Jurala caters to drinking water needs of people in the parched Mahbubnagar district.
Inflows into river Krishna were only 197 tmc-ft last season as against the normal 821 tmc-ft, due to a deficit rainfall. Consequently, there was no inflow of water into Jurala.
