Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra Monday said that arbitrators must undergo training to understand the developments taking place in the world of arbitration.
He also said that a good arbitrator must also be a strong mediator.
Justice Misra was speaking at the release of the book "Principles of Law of Arbitration in India" penned by Dharmendra Rautray.
Praising the author, Justice Misra said, "I am sure after I demit my office, the book will be of help."
"Learning should not stop at any time. I am of strong view that arbitrators should be trained. I have decided many arbitration cases but still there are some techniques like de-duplicating of documents and other concepts," Justice Misra said.
Elaborating on the process of litigation, Justice Misra said,"Earlier, we had only 300 documents, now it can increase up to thousands. So, earlier these documents were admitted and contested but now we cannot do this because we love to litigate. There is a passion for litigation," said Justice Misra.
Delhi High Court Justice Ravindra Bhat, who was also one of the dignitaries, said that there is a scarcity of arbitration institutions in the country.
He mentioned the Delhi High Court Arbitration Centre has its own limitations though it was performing well despite the constraints.
Senior Advocate A K Ganguly said that he has been supporting the cause of arbitration for a long time.
"Arbitrations provide right opportunity to litigants," he said.
