Arrested Darjeeling Chamber of Commerce prez hospitalised

Arrested Darjeeling Chamber of Commerce President, V M Garh, who was in police custody for two days fell ill today and was hospitalised here, police sources said.

Garh, who was arrested on September 11 on the charge of arson at the Chakdah bungalow during the agitation for Gorkhaland, was remanded to a day's police custody, the sources said.

He was subsequently remanded in two days police custody, the sources said.

Garh was admitted today to the Darjeeling Sadar Hospital where his condition was stated to be serious with a heart condition, hospital sources said.

He was under police guard at the hospital, the sources said.
 

GTA member, Urmila Rumba was arrested during the day for law violation and for taking part in a road blockade on July 29, when the series of bandhs began in the hills, police sources said.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of a teachers association, speaking on condition of anonymity said that the GJM diktat for school teachers to speak about the cause of Gorkhaland during morning assembly each day could not be obeyed.

He said that it did not fall within a teacher's duty to enforce the diktat as it was the agenda of a political party.

He said that the GJM diktat was similar to that of the Taliban. "There is no difference with the Taliban," he added.
