Two cops were arrested for allegedly letting off a truck laden with liquor, in violation of the alcohol ban in the state, after accepting a bribe from the driver, police said on Thursday.

Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Rashid Zaman said the two policemen and the truck driver were arrested on Wednesday following complaints that the cops let off the vehicle on September 30 after taking a bribe.

The arrested persons include station house officer of Baikunthpur police station Laxmi Narayan Mahto, assistant sub-inspector Sudhir Kumar and Kanhaiya Sharma, the truck driver.

Mahto and Kumar have been been placed under suspension, the SP said.

Sale and consumption of liquor was banned in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government in April 2016.
