BJP slams Bihar government for not questioning Bhatkal

The BJP today criticised the Bihar police for not interrogating Yasin Bhatkal in connection with the Bodh Gaya blast and blamed it on the vote bank politics pursued by the JD(U) government.

"It is surprising that the Bihar police did not question Bhatkal and his associate Asadulla Akhtar for their suspected role in the Bodh Gaya blast after arresting them from the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar's East Champaran district two days ago," BJP national vice-president C P Thakur told PTI.

Thakur indicated that the Bihar police could not have acted on its own and must have been ordered by the JD(U) government not to question the IM operatives on the Bodh Gaya blast and mushrooming of IM modules in north Bihar districts in recent years.

The senior BJP leader alleged that the high-profile IM operatives were handed over to the NIA by the Bihar police on the instruction of the Nitish Kumar government which did not want to antagonize the minority community by questioning the two.

He said that the serial blasts in Bodh Gaya last month was the first-ever terror incident in Bihar and that the arrest of Bhatkal and Akhtar had given a golden opportunity to the state government and its police department to expose the perpetrators, but they let go of it.
