An anonymous call claiming that a bomb has been planted at the state secretariat sent the police into a tizzy but it turned out to be hoax and one person has been arrested in this connection.

Kolkata Police Control room at the police headquarters, at Lalbazar, received the call at around 9 PM yesterday about a bomb being planted at Nabanna, the state secretariat, police said.

Aniruddha Ghosh (52) was arrested from his Kalighat Road residence late last night for making the call, a senior Kolkata Police officer said.

Immediately after receiving the call, Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and Howrah police chief Devendra Prakash Singh along with bomb squad, team of sniffer dogs reached Nabanna, cordoned off the entire building at Mandirtala in Howrah and its surrounding area and launched a search operation, he said.

"However, nothing was found and based on the tower details of the phone we arrested Ghosh. We are questioning him for why he did this," he said.

The police were also checking whether Ghosh had any criminal history.
