Body of deceased mountaineer flown back to Kolkata

Two mountaineers returned home safely today after conquering the Mount Everest while the body of another who died after scaling a peak was flown to the city.

Debraj Dutta, who had completed the summit, was given a warm welcome on arrival at Howrah station.

"I am sad for those whom we lost at Everest," Dutta said.

State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Aroop Biswas welcomed mountaineer Sunita Hazra, who had fallen ill at Mount Everest, at the airport.

"The government will provide all possible help to her. She needs to be hospitalised and we will take care of her," he said.
 

The body of mountaineer Rajib Bhattacharya, who died while descending from Dhoulagiri peak, was flown to the city during the day.

Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi expressed condolences to his bereaved family.

"I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of mountaineer Shri Rajib Bhattacharya. He met his last while successfully completing his Dhoulagiri expedition - the adventure he so loved. He will ever remain inspiration to the adventure-loving youth of West Bengal," he said.
