A close aide of Ram Vriksha Yadav, the cult leader whose supporters had encroached upon Jawahar Bagh leading to clashes, died in the district hospital here, police said today.
"Ram Bharose, resident of Kanpur Dehat, lodged in Mathura Jail on June 4 developed congestion in his chest. He was admitted in the jail hospital but on the advise of doctors he was shifted to district hospital where he breathed his last at about 8 PM yesterday," Jail Superintendent P D Salonia said.
His family members have been informed and his body has been sent for post-mortem, he said.
Ram Bharose had been assaulted by a crowd outside Jawahar Bagh, following which he was admitted in the district hospital and was later shifted to Mathura Jail on June 4.
He was booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and his involvement was suspected in the killing of SP City Mukul Dwivedi, police said.
