Demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the attack on the kins of a Congress candidate in Jeypore in Koraput district, a delegation of Congress led by former minister Narasingha Mishra today met the Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra.

The team comprising Mishra, Kishore Patel and Taraprasad Bahinipati, the Congress candidate whose kins were attacked at a hotel, asked the police chief to ensure the arrest of the attackers to avoid further escalation of tension which was brewing in Jeypore over the incident.

"We have been assured by the DGP that the culprits will be arrested soon," Mishra told reporters alleging that the attackers were getting political patronage.

The brother and nephew of Tara Bahinipati, Congress leader and party candidate from the Jeypore Assembly seat, were stabbed by a gang inside a hotel on the night of April 11, a day after the first phase polling in the state.

The entire scene was captured by the CCTV cameras in the hotel and the culprits were identified from the footage, including the district president of Youth BJD.

Bahinipati had alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of his political rival and BJD minister Rabinarayan Nanda, who denied his involvement in the incident.

Bahinipati had, on Saturday warned that people in Jeypore would resort to a gherao of Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, if the government failed to arrest the accused involved in the attack within three days.
