A senior Congress minister in Jammu and Kashmir today batted for creation of new administrative units like tehsils, niabats, blocks and patwar halqas in Dooru constituency of South Kashmir.

State Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who represents the Dooru Assembly constituency, submitted a memorandum to the Cabinet Sub-Committee Chairman, and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand for the creation of new administrative units.

Apart from suggesting tehsil status to Verinag, Mir demanded nayabats status to Larkipora, Hillar Shahabad and Kapran. He also proposed the creation of patwar halqas at Mehmoodabad, Nowpora, Shengren, Ara-Kashipora, Hangipora, Dalwach Gigisgund, Chnagoo, and Manzmoh.

The minister also proposed re-organisation of community development (CD) and National Extension Service (NES) blocks.

He suggested that Voy Bamdoora, Lissar Chawalgam and Geybum Uterhal Panchayat halqas could be shifted from Breng Block to the existing CD and NES Block of Shahabad Larkipora on the grounds that they belong to Shahabad Dooru segment.

Mir apprised the Cabinet Sub-Committee members that there is no mention of Hillar Shahabad, Manzmoh, Tanjloo and Check-i-Wangund Panchayat halqas of Dooru, which presently are within the jurisdiction of CD and NES Block Qazigund.

He added that the said halqas have neither indicated in the existing Block Qazigund nor in the newly proposed CD and NES Block Verinag in the report formulated for the re-organisation of administrative units.

He proposed that these Panchayat halqas may be carved out with the newly proposed CD and NES block Verinag on the grounds that these areas belong to Shahabad-Dooru constituency.
