The main opposition Congress today staged a walk-out from the Chhattisgarh Assembly, unsatisfied over government's reply on the issue of ban on transfer of ownership of agricultural land admeasuring less than 5 dismil (a local unit of area).

Raising the issue through calling attention motion, senior Congress MLA Satyanarayan Sharma said the revenue department had imposed ban on transfer of agricultural land below 5 dismil, which is a violation of land revenue code.

Land is generally partitioned as family size grows in rural areas and sometimes they have to divide the land admeasuring 5 dismil, he said.

The ban had led to disputes among family members, he added.

Revenue Minister Prem Prakash Pandey said the department was following the provisions of Chhattisgarh Land Revenue Code, 1959, to prevent the agricultural land from falling into the hands of land mafia. He denied that Land Revenue Code was being violated in the process.

Not satisfied over his reply, Congress members staged a walk-out.
