Copper weakens by 0.4% on global cues

Speculators trimmed positions, tracking a weak trend overseas

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Copper futures prices today fell 0.36% to Rs 433.80 per kg as speculators trimmed positions, tracking a weak trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month November declined by Rs 1.45, or 0.36%, to Rs 433.80 per kg in business turnover of 385 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in August fell by Rs 1.30, or 0.31%, to Rs 424.65 per kg in 1,358 lots.

Analysts attributed the decline to offloading of positions speculators as most industrial metals weakened at the London Metal Exchange (LME) as the dollar strengthened after data showing signs of the improving US economy, making commodities priced in the greenback more expensive for buyers outside the country.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three-months traded 0.30% low at $7,032 per tonne on the LME.
