Court orders attachment of MVI's DA worth Rs 44.32 lakh

A vigilance court today ordered confiscation of Disproportionate Assets (DA) worth Rs 44.32 lakh of a Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI) Raghuvansh Kumar in a corruption case lodged against him five years ago.

The Vigilance Special Judge Nand Kumar Srivastava passed the order directing the state government to confiscate the MVI's DA comprising a two-storied house in the state capital, cash and jewelleries worth Rs two lakh each, besides other properties after finding him of amassing assets beyond his known sources of income.

A vigilance team has in 2008, arrested Singh for taking Rs 50,000 bribe from a person in Bihar's Aurangabad district and booked him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and prayed for confiscation of his assets worth Rs 44.32 lakh amassed from ill-gotten means.
 

The MVI had challenged the order in 2000 for confiscation of his assets of the above mentioned amount in the high court which, in 2010, had directed for a fresh hearing by the designated court in the matter.
