The CPI today said the remarks made by Patel leaders that their community be given OBC status or quotas offered to others be cancelled, attacks the principle of reservation and can lead to war between castes.

"The statement of Mr Hardik Patel that Patels should be given reservation or all reservations should be cancelled creates an impression that the agitation also aims at attacking the principle of reservation itself.

"The demand of several upper castes and middle-level castes for reservation is causing serious concern. This will lead to a situation of caste wars and needs a serious discussion at national-level," CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement

The CPI also condemned police action, while controlling the Patel agitation seeking OBC quota, in which 10 persons lost their lives and demanded judicial probe in the matter.

Pointing towards news channels airing footages showing state police purportedly destroying parked vehicles where there no crowds in the violence-hit part of the state, CPI demanded cops concerned be punished and reasonable compensation be paid to families of victims.
