With Jat leaders threatening to resume their agitation if the BJP led Haryana government does not meet their demands by tomorrow, the government today said Deputy Commissioners will take a call on whether to order closure of schools/colleges after assessing the law and order situation in their respective districts.

"The Deputy Commissioners will take a call in this regard after assessing the situation in their districts," Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary (Home) P K Das told PTI here this evening.

He was asked if the schools/colleges in Haryana have been ordered to remain shut for three days beginning tomorrow in the wake of the threat by the Jat leaders.

He, however, pointed out that there was no order from the Home Department ordering closure of educational institutions in the State tomorrow.

The Jat quota Bill is likely to be tabled in the Haryana Assembly tomorrow, keeping in view the deadline set by agitating Jats to meet their reservation demand, official sources said even as there was no official confirmation.

The influential Jat community leaders are demanding 10 per cent quotas, besides withdrawal of FIRs registered against the protesters, compensation to those killed during the stir and action against BJP MP from Kurukshetra Raj Kumar Saini for his alleged "anti-Jat" reservation stand.

Meanwhile, colleges in Rohtak district of Haryana will remain closed from tomorrow following their request as it would enable students to have extended holidays, an official said today.

The colleges were otherwise slated to remain closed from March 20 to 27.

Newly-appointed Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak, Atul Kumar said principals, registrars and management officials of various colleges in Rohtak met him today and requested that they be given permission to close the institutes from tomorrow.

To a question whether the move had anything to do with Jat leaders threatening to resume their stir, he shot back, "Nowhere does my order mention anything like that."

"It was a simple request from these colleges and they reasoned that many students were living in hostels. Besides some others had not been able to visit their homes during the period when unrest was on," Kumar told PTI over phone.

"They stated the colleges are supposed to have holidays between March 20 to 27 and if they get a few additional days, it will help the students," he said.
