The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) will conduct an investigation into the running aground of a naptha-laden ship off the Goa coast in October, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Thursday.
The cargo vessel, that ran aground near the Raj Bhavan here, has been towed to Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) after being re-floated on Wednesday night.
The ship, 'Nu-Shi Nalini', had got stranded on October 24, approximately 2.5 nautical miles off the Goa coast, posing risk of an oil spill and a threat to marine life.
An investigation would be conducted into the entire episode. Already, we have informed DG Shipping to conduct the inquiry as Mormugao Port Trust comes under its ambit, Sawant said.
Opposition parties had raised question over authorities allowing the unmanned ship to enter MPT.

Sawant said the ship has been re-floated and on Thursday taken to MPT, where the process of unloading the fuel would start.
A Netherlands-based company was earlier given the contract to salvage the stranded vessel and empty it.
The Sawant-led government earlier drew flak for delay in salving the ship.
The DGS had formed a five- member committee to oversee off-loading of naphtha from the vessel and its salvage operation.
