Delhi Jal Board (DJB) today okayed a highly-simplified and easily-implementable rainwater harvesting (RWH) structure which would aid in the preservation of groundwater in the national capital.
The decision was taken after it was seen that applicants seeking permission for installing recharge bores for rainwater harvesting were not getting permission from the district advisory committees while, at the same time, penalties under the Delhi Water and Sewer (Tariff & Metering) Regulation, 2012, were being imposed on DJB consumers for not setting up RWH structures on their premises, said a DJB statement.
"This particular structure, which does not require a borewell, has proved effective in other countries. The Board has extended the date for installation of the RWH structures till June 30," the statement said.

The decision was taken during the Board meeting of DJB which was chaired by Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra.
In a major relief to Delhiites, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced a waiver on water bills pending till November last year. The benefits of the scheme can be availed from February 15 to July 31 by domestic (individual and bulk) consumers with functional water meters.
