Five killed as car hits tree

Five persons including two women and a child, were killed when the vehicle carrying them rammed into a tree in East Midnapore district today, the police said here.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the jeep from Kolkata carrying members of two families hit a tree at Patna Bazaar under Egra police station.

While two persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries in Contai Sub-divisional Hospital.

The two other passengers of the vehicle were sent to a Kolkata hospital in a serious condition where one of them died, the sources said.

The two families were residents of Iqbalpur area of south Kolkata.
