The Gauhati High Court Bar Association today decided to indefinitely boycott the court room of Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao to protest against his decision to shift all PILs of Itanagar and Kohima benches to the Assam capital.

The Association held a meeting this morning with the Judges, including Justice Rao, but failed to find a solution.

"The Bar boycotted all proceedings of the Court during the second half. We have also decided to boycott Court Room 2, where the Chief Justice sits, till the order is reversed," a senior advocate said.

Earlier during the day, the Association held an extraordinary general body meeting and decided to protest against the decision if it was not reversed.

It was also decided that senior members of the Association would travel to New Delhi and submit memorandums to the Chief Justice of India and the Union Law Minister next week, an advocate said.

Last month, Justice Rao ordered transfer of all PILs registered at Itanagar and Kohima benches to the Gauhati High Court.

Last week, the Association had also protested against the Chief Justice's another decision to appoint an amicus curiae for all PILs registered at the Gauhati High Court.

However, the order was withdrawn later.
