Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot today said the BJP-led government at the Centre should take "immediate" steps to break the "logjam" with the judiciary.
"It is not in the national interest if the Country's Executive and Judiciary, remain at loggerheads. Why did the Modi Government allow situation to deteriorate to a level, which the Chief Justice of India describes as a 'collapse of the entire system (sic),'" the senior Congress leader posted on social networking website Facebook.
He said the government should stop "stalling" judicial appointments "for the sake of the common man" who were waiting for their cases to be heard, adding that this was delaying the process of justice dispensation.
"Justice delayed is justice denied but in India if justice is delayed, it ruins a person financially. The longer a case goes, the more financially wrecking it becomes (sic)," said Gehlot.
He said the Centre should settle its differences amicably with the collegium headed by the CJI as regards a new memorandum of procedure for transfer and appointment of chief justices and judges to the high courts.
Observing that the justice delivery system was "collapsing", the Supreme Court yesterday sent out a stern message to the Centre over non-execution of the collegium's decision to transfer and appoint chief justices and judges in the high courts, saying it would not tolerate the "logjam" and would intervene to make it accountable.
