The Goa government is all set to discontinue its ambitious scheme of providing e-tablets to students in schools across the state.

"The government is planning to roll down the scheme shortly," Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the Goa Assembly in a reply to a query tabled by BJP legislator Glen Ticlo.

However, the government has not cited any reason behind winding up the scheme.

Parsekar said the government was yet to implement the scheme for the current academic year.

Responding to a question on whether any substitute scheme was formulated, the CM replied in negative.

The scheme, launched in 2013 when Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Minister, entailed providing e-notepads to students studying in fifth and ninth standards.

The scheme, for which the government had initially earmarked Rs 40 crore, was expected to benefit around 40,000 students in the first phase.
