Lifeguards in Goa today returned to duty after their 15-day-long strike and headed to the beaches where they were posted.
"All the striking lifeguards have joined duty this morning after state tourism minister Dilip Parulekar assured them that he would look into their demands.
"The lifeguards have gone to their respective beach stations," All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) leader Suhas Naik said today.
Around 600 lifeguards employed by Drishti Lifesaving Services Private Limited had struck work demanding regularisation of services and minimum wages, among other things.
The strike was called off yesterday after Parulekar assured them that their demands would be fulfilled.
Naik, meanwhile, said that there were some initial problems when the lifeguards returned to their duties.
"There were minor issues wherein the workers were not given assignment by the management (Drishti)," he claimed.
AITUC has called a meeting with Drishti tomorrow to sort the issues, he said while urging that the "state government should stop the victimisation of workers".
