Jarda was a prime accused in the Godhra train carnage case as he was a member of the core team that had allegedly set the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express ablaze in Godhra on February 27, 2002, killing 59 persons.
His name was included in the eighth supplementary charge-sheet in the case. He, along with ten others had been given death penalty by the special trial court in March 2011. Their appeals are pending before the High Court.
Jarda had jumped his 15-day parole, which ended on 18 November 2014, following which the jail authorities had sounded an alert. He was granted parole by the Gujarat High Court on November 3 to attend to some house renovation work.
