Govt building sealed for 'Drug Menace' in Jammu

Authorities today sealed a government building used allegedly by drug mafia with suspected connivance of some officials in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The building, located at Dandyal near the office of the Chief Education officer, was sealed by the District Administration, Udhampur after inspection showed that it was being used for illicit purposes by drug mafia with suspected connivance of some officials, a senior official said.

The building located on the outskirts of the town was constructed by Sports Authority of India and later being used by the Sports Department, he said.

A team of officers comprising of Sapna Kotwal, Tehsildar Udhampur and O P Chib, SHO Udhampur, inspected the building and found intoxicating substances, liquor bottles, capsules, used liquor pouches and other items following which the building was sealed.
 

The abandoned rooms were apparently being used by unauthorised persons, the officer said.

The District Vigilance Officer (DVO), Angrez Singh Rana has been appointed by the DC to enquire into the matter and fix responsibility for the officers involved in misuse of building and utilising it for flourishing drug addiction in town.
