Govt intensifies steps to collect dues from toddy shop owners

Puducherry Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today said as much as Rs 53.09 crore was due from 546 toddy and arrack shop owners to the government since 1968.

He told A.Baskar (AIADMK) during question time in the Assembly that an intensive drive had been launched to realise the dues from the licencees. As a result of the drive, the government could realise Rs 13.43 crore.

The AIADMK member made complaints on certain discrepancies in the working of the Excise Department in making available relevant forms to the shop owners.

Rangasamy said these complaints would be looked into and discrepancies alleged by the member would be rectified.
