Himchal Chief secretary V C Pharka today praised the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for playing a very important role in the recent drive launched by the state government for uprooting cannabis and opium plantations.
Speaking at the "Flag in" ceremony of ITBP mountain expedition which scaled the Leo Pargil peak (22222 ft) in Kinnaur district at regional headquarter at Tara Devi near here, he said that carrying out the drive in hostile terrain and risk to life from offenders was no easy task but ITBP Jawans reached the remotest areas to make the drive a success.
Managing the ITBP check posts on the borders under freezing cold conditions with mercury dipping 40 degree below freezing point at an altitude ranging from 9000 ft to 18,700 ft, fighting Naxalite menace in Chhattisgarh , providing security for Mansarovar and Amarnath Yatra or guarding Indian High Commission at Afghanistan was no mean task and the ITBP Jawans deserve praise for handling all these sensitive tasks, he added.
The 22-member expedition, led by Saddharth Kumar was flagged off from Shimla on August 29 and scaled the Leo Pargil peak (22222 ft) in Kinnaur on September 11.
