India U-17 boys finish 7th at Youth Olympic Games Rugby Sevens

The Under-17 Boys Rugby Team finished in the seventh place at the Youth Rugby Sevens Qualifiers, held at Tainan in Chinese Taipei on September 9 and 10.

After three successive defeats by heavyweights Malaysia, and Chinese Taipei, the boys dug deep and defeated a spirited rugby side to end the first day on a high, Rugby said in a release.

India, led by Narasing Marndi of Odisha, finished seventh after defeating Laos 24-5.

were crowned Champions of the tournament after defeating Thailand in the final by 43-0 and Chinese Taipei secured third place defeating 40-7.

The Indian team participated under the aegis of Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU).

Ten teams -- Hong Kong, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, UAE, Uzbekistan, and hosts Chinese Taipei -- participated in the tournament.
