A lawyer was allegedly assaulted and threatened with a gun by a former corporator outside a court here today.
Rajendra Vitankar, the lawyer, represents the petitioner in a land dispute case where Kailas Gaikwad, former corporator, is one of the respondents.
"When Vitankar was cross-examining Gaikwad in the court, the latter threatened him of dire consequences and said he will deal with him outside," said a police officer from Shivajinagar police station.

Afterwards, Vitankar came out. "The moment he came out of the courtroom, Gaikwad and four or five of his associates caught hold of him and took him outside the court premises and assaulted him," the officer said.
Gaikwad brandished a gun and threatened to kill the lawyer, while two of his men took away Rs 15,000 that Vitaknar was carrying and tried to push him into a car.
However, other lawyers raised alarm, so the assailants fled, the officer said.
Police have registered a case against Gaikwad and his associates.
