Supported by rising demand from battery makers, lead rose 0.25 per cent to Rs 158.70 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in current month was up 40 paise, or 0.25 per cent, at Rs 158.70 per kg, in a business turnover of 411 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in December traded up by 20, or 0.13 per cent, at Rs 158.90 per kg in three lots.

According to market analysts, rising demand from battery makers at spot markets and strength in base metals at the London Metal Exchange helped lead futures trade higher.
