In the role of a Marwari boy in Anjan Dutta's upcoming flick 'Ganesh Talkies' as his third Tollywood debut, Subhas Ghai's Kaanchi actor Chandan Roy Sanyal says he does not regret doing the third Tollywood film in four years.
"I get to do a little comedy for the first time in my career in 'Ganesh Talkies'. A film which opens with wedding and ends with wedding. I settled for the role as I found the character quirky and since I wanted to work with Anjanda (Dutta)," Chandan told PTI about his character in the upcoming movie named after the erstwhile iconic single screen theatre in Chitpur known for screening typical C grade types.
"I have come here to do good work. What I wish to do is to be part of the project of good directors. But I don't want to be part of mindless, brawny, average films. So if that boils down to me bagging in three-four films in as many years so be it. The audience is very brutal, they won't excuse you for any lapse," he was speaking on the sidelines of a press meet.
Chandan, who had worked with Suman Mukhopadhyay (Mahanagar @Kolkata), Aniruddha Roy Choudhury (Aparajita Tumi) earlier said he would, however, love to do any projects with directors like Aparna Sen and Srijitda (Srijit Mukherjee).
"I met Rinadi (Aparna) and I want to work with her. I met Srijitda a couple of times but if they don't have roles for me, what can I do!. I don't have a PR but I am like that only," he said.
Dwelling on how his theatre background helped him in fleshing out characters, Chandan, who rates Vishal Bharadwaj as the one having shaped his film career in Kaminey, said "I have now great expectations from Kaanchi."
"Working with a Subhas Ghai project is a big honour. I have scenes with Kolkata girl Misti. And the casting shows I can be fitted for other roles. And Ganesh Talkies may help me in getting non-conventional roles even in formula types," Chandan awaiting release of his Hindi movie D-Day, said.
Actor Rajesh Sharma, having essayed Chandan's on-screen father in the partly Hindi movie, said "Ganesh Talkies resonates with the flavour of Basu Chatterjee Hindi flicks Khatta Meetha and Chhoti Si Mulaqat.
"I play a Marwari English speaking guy and the switchover from the cerebral playwright in The Play to a buisnessman in Ganesh Talkies becomes more natural if you have a theatre background like me in Usha Ganguly's Rangakarmi," he said.
Ganesh Talkies releases on June 21.
