Live bullets seized at CM's mass contact programme

Four live bullets were seized from an ex-serviceman when he came to meet Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy during his Mass Contact Programme here today, causing brief anxiety.

60-year old C J Francis, who is presently working as a security in a jewellery, came to meet Chandy with a petition seeking his help to renew the licence of his fire arm, police said.

The ammunition was seized during frisking by the police, they said adding Francis had been arrested.

Francis had been holding a valid licence till two years ago.

However, the day-long contact programme 'Karuthal-2015', which began at 7.00 am, went off normally. As many as 11,089 complaints, through various sources, have been received for the programme, officials said.
 

More than 90 per cent of them have already been investigated and reports submitted by respective officials. The complaints were scrutinised by a screening committee headed by Minister for Social Justice and Panchayats, M K Muneer before being submitted to the Chief Minister.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the venue- Malabar Christian College Ground, with more than 2,000 personnel, including students police cadets, pressed into service.

Inaugurating the programme, Chandy announced that a mega project in the model of Kochi Smart City would be implemented at Mavoor in Kozhikode.

A major PPP model initiative, the project would change the face of Kozhikode in the short run.
