A four-year-old boy was killed after allegedly run over by a jeep at Nalasopara in the district, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday when Aadarsh Virendra Yadav, the boy, was playing outside his house, Police Inspector Narayan Patil of Waliv Police Station said.
While the 29-year-old driver Rakesh Yadav was reversing the vehicle, the child came under the vehicle, he said.
Yadav who was rushed to nearby hospital was declared brought dead. The driver, who fled away from the spot, was later arrested in the wee hours today, the officer said.
A case under relevant sections of IPC and Motor Vehicle Act was registered and investigations are underway, police said.
