Mob pelted stones at the police outside the court in Bhiwandi town in the district today.
Inspector S V Jadhav of Nizampura police station said police were bringing to the court a person accused of posting some offencive comment about a religion on the social media when the mob gathered and threw stones.
Tension prevailed in the town for some time and police deployment was increased.
The situation was now under control.
