While travelling most Indians, 67 per cent, consider flying in a Low Cost Carrier (LCC) to replace a train journey, highest in any Asia-Pacific country, according to a recent survey.
Indians are most willing to consider a LCC to replace a train journey, which is 67 per cent, an Expedia report on Low Cost Carrier (LCC) Index said.
The study was conducted on behalf of Expedia by Northstar, a globally integrated strategic insights consulting firm, among 3,263 adults, aged 18 and above in India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan, who have flown in the past two years.
The report revealed that about 46 per cent Indians will also consider LCCs to replace a bus journey for trips with at least three family members for whom they are paying (45 per cent), for a trip with friends (44 per cent) and for trips to visit family and friends (45 per cent).
However, Indian are least likely to consider LCCs for a honeymoon (9 per cent), a long-haul flight (15 per cent) and company paid business trips (17 per cent), it said.
About 41 per cent Indian travellers would also consider a LCC for a flight time of up to three hours.
"For a flight spanning 5 hours, the figure drops to 27 per cent, and tumbles thereafter. Only 9 per cent Indian flyers would take a LCC for an eight-hour flight while only 2 per cent for a 16-hour flight," it showed.
Looking at the overall survey results, women express greater safety concerns about low cost and full service airlines than men.
