DRI seizes 9 kg gold from aircraft at Hyderabad airport

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized 9 kgs gold, worth Rs 2.39 crore, from an aircraft which landed at Rajiv Gandhi international airport from Delhi at Shamshabad here.

Based on a specific intelligence, the DRI officers thwarted the attempt to smuggle gold into the country when they made a seizure of unclaimed gold weighing 9 kgs last night from a private aircraft arriving from Delhi to Hyderabad, said DRI's Hyderabad Zonal unit Additional Director M K Singh.

This aircraft was earlier on an international run from Dubai to Ahmedabad, he said.

On rummaging the aircraft about 9 kgs of gold were found concealed behind the pushback cushion of two seats of the aircraft. The entire quantity of seized gold is valued at Rs 2.39 crore, the senior DRI official said in a statement.
 

The matter is being investigated, it said.
