The National Green Tribunal has restrained the Vadodara Municipal Corporation from proceeding with any construction or development activity under the Vishwamitri River Development Project (VRDP).
The Western Zone bench of the green panel based in Pune passed the order last week on a petition filed by Vadodara- based environmental activist Rohit Prajapati and others. It posted the matter for further hearing on July 1.
"We had approached the Green tribunal to restrain VMC as it has not obtained any environmental clearance for the project," Prajapati said here.
The project will cause damage to the river's ecosystem, the activists contended in the petition.
