Giving a platform to discuss challenges before the polymer sector and chalk out strategies for its growth, a 3-day international exhibition and conference on plastics and polymers is being organised from November 7 in Odisha's Balasore.

The mega event, christened "Plast Future East-2014", is being organised by North Orissa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCi) in association with the state Government's "Team Odisha".

Delegates from across the country would take part in the event at the newly created modern world class exhibition and convention venue named Balasore International Expo Centre (BIEX) in NOCCi business Park in Bampada area, said Amit Behera, Convenor of the exhibition.

BIEX is a new infrastructure with world class facility for holding trade fairs, exhibitions, and conventions at Balasore, the humming coastal town of northern Odisha, in the centre of 3 state capitals Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Ranchi, and economic hubs like Jamshedpur and Kharagpur, he said.

Stating that plastics industry in eastern India is growing at 9 per cent per annum as against 14 per cent of India, Behera said per capita consumption of plastics in the eastern states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Assam & north-eastern states is 2.8 kg versus national average of per capita consumption of 8 Kg.

This shows the tremendous growth potential in eastern region as per study by the All India Plastics Manufacturers' Association (AIPMA), he said.
