A protest attempt by over 50 staff members of the Meghalaya High Court here were stalled by the police today fearing it might affect the functioning of the Court.
Barring a few, the entire staff tried to abstain from regular duties expressing solidarity with one administrative staff B Nongbri against whom disciplinary action was taken yesterday.
The East Khasi Hills district administration had to intervene and shifted the protesters to the Sadar police station in view of Section 144 of the CrPC clamped in the area since last month.

While no one was arrested, SP Kharkrang said the agitators were later released after they said they would like to resume their duties.
Registrar General of the High Court B Mawrie said "They tried to abstain from regular duties, but soon realised their mistakes they resolved the matter," she said in a release, citing the staff members' "ignorance" about the rules of the Court, which prohibits them from demonstrating or go on a strike.
Mawrie added the Court functioned smoothly with assistance of other available staff members.
