The Punjab government today approved the introduction of a 'new plan scheme' for honouring the hard working peasants of the state with annual cash awards.
The proposal was cleared by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here this evening, an official spokesman said.
The scheme is aimed at giving a major push to agriculture and allied sectors by recognising the immense contribution made by the state's farmers.

According to the scheme, which would be included as a 'plan scheme' in the next Budget, three farmers each from agriculture and different categories of animal husbandry would be given a cash prize and honour by the state government every year in recognition to their contribution in these fields.
This would inculcate a feeling of competition amongst the farmers and motivate them to perform far better in their respective fields, the spokesman said, elaborating on the details.
