Press Trust of India Mangalore
: The transport department today conducted raids and inspected buses plying in the district and registered cases against 18 private and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses for not installing emergency exit doors.

The state transport department had made it mandatory for all long-route buses including tourist buses to fit emergency doors after several accidents were reported, official sources said.

The officials inspected government and private buses and registered cases against three KSRTC buses and 15 private buses for not complying with the directions. The deadline for the installation of exit doors had been extended twice.

The officials said the raid operations would continue and legal action would be initiated after taking the buses into custody, if the owners failed to implement the orders.
